Note: The maximum length of an asset tag is ten characters, and asset tag values should not contain any spaces.

Note: Dell Command | Configure is a packaged software offering that provides configuration capability to business client platforms. This product consists of a Command Line Interface (CLI) and Graphical User Interface (GUI) to configure various BIOS features.
These instructions will assist you in using Command | Configure to set the asset tag information in the BIOS with Windows and certain Linux installations:
- Refer to the Dell Support Site to download Command | Configure from the Command suite. This can be found under the Systems Management category of the Drivers & Downloads site.
- Install command | Configure on the system that needs to have the BIOS asset tag changed:
- Follow the instructions on the support site to install the software.
- Go to the Create Local System Package tab on the GUI.
- Click System Summary.
- Click the Value to set field and type in the required asset tag.
- Click the Export.exe button at the bottom of the screen.
- Save it to your desired folder.
- Run the saved file and then shut down your PC normally.
- Check the BIOS to make sure the Asset Tag is correct.
Legacy Software
Note: Dell Client Configuration Toolkit (CCTK) is a packaged software offering that provides scripted configuration capability to Dell Business Client Platforms including OptiPlex, Latitude, and Precision systems. CCTK consists of command-line utilities for supported business client operating systems. It helps configure and query BIOS settings on the systems. CCTK can also be used in a Microsoft® Windows® Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE).
These instructions will assist you in using CCTK to set the asset tag information in the BIOS with Windows:
- Refer to the Dell Support Site to download CCTK. This can be found under the Systems Management category of the Drivers & Downloads site.
- Install CCTK on the system that needs to have the BIOS asset tag changed:
- Navigate to the
C:\dell\drivers\
folder you created. - Double-click the
cctk.msi
program to open the installer. - Navigate through the InstallShield Wizard to install the program.
- Navigate to the
- Open the Command Prompt window in your Windows operating system:
- Click the Start button.
- In the search box, type cmd.
- In the list of results, right-click on cmd and choose Run as administrator.
- Use the DOS command of
cd\
, change the directory to the root directory (typically C:\). - At the C:\ prompt, use the dos command of
cd
to change the directory to the proper cctk directory:- For Windows 32-bit, the full command would be
cd program files\dell\cctk\x86.
- For Windows 64-bit, the full command would be
cd program files\dell\cctk\x86_64.
- For Windows 32-bit, the full command would be
- From the proper cctk directory, use the dos command of
dir
to verify that the program ofcctk.exe
is in the directory. - From the proper cctk directory, use the
--asset
command to set the customer programmable BIOS asset tag:- For example, to change the asset tag to
Computer1
the full command would becctk --asset=Computer1.
- Wait for the command to process. You will be either brought back to the cctk directory if successful. Or you may receive an error message if not successful.
